Greener Homes Grant

The objective of the Canada Greener Homes Grant is to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient. Buildings, including our homes, account for 18% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. The goal is to help Canadians make where they live more energy-efficient, this means homes will be more comfortable and more affordable to maintain while also supporting our environmental objectives.

As part of this initiative, you are eligible for up to $600 total for the cost of pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations and up to $5,000 to help make energy-efficient retrofits to your home, such as better insulation!

The Canadian Greener Homes Grant allows homeowners to increase their home insulation. This slows the rate of heat loss, resulting in improved energy use and can help save money!

  • Attic/ceiling insulation

  • Exterior wall insulation

  • Exposed floor

  • Basement/foundation insulation

  • Crawlspaces

The insulation’s resistance to heat flow is measured using both an RSI value and an R-value. R-value is the imperial measurement and the Résistance Système International (RSI) value is the metric measurement. The higher the resistance value, the slower the rate of heat transfer through the insulating material. Recommendations on insulation improvements and the calculation of your incentive will use these values.

Eligible Canadian citizens can register, regardless of where they live, as long as they provide proof of ownership and demonstrate the property is their primary residence. Only one homeowner per home can register. Indigenous governments or organizations and housing management bodies may also apply.

  • Single and semi-detached houses

  • Row housing

  • Townhomes

  • Mobile homes on a permanent foundation

  • Permanently-moored floating homes

  • Mixed-use buildings (residential portion only)

  • Low-rise multi-unit residential buildings (three storeys or less with a footprint of 600m2 or less)

In conclusion, you’ll be helping the environment’s well-being, all while getting the opportunity to renovate your home!
